Do you support the idea of Universal Basic Income? Why or why not?

Yes I do. Then the distribution of wealth would be fairer for everyone. Nowadays the difference in income between nations is too wide even for workers working in the same field. It is better to have a standardize income for everyone so that people will get equal amaount of salariea based on their job discription no matter where thwy are

Why should you have supported the abolition of slavery back in the late 19th century? Why should you have supported the right for people other than rich white men to vote? Why should you have supported our landing on the Moon? Why should you have supported the ending of the Vietnam war, or the beginning of LBJ’s war on poverty?Because you want to make our world a better place. That’s why.

The idea of basic income cuts across all party lines. From the extreme right to the extreme left, we are hearing calls for basic income. Those on the right love its potential to shrink the size of government and do away with minimum wage laws, while those on the left love its potential to reduce inequality and once and for all put an end to poverty. Basic income is not “left” or “right”. It’s forward.

Yes, Yes AND Yes!!!.. BuT HOW???

A resounding 'YES' with drum rolls for universal basic pay idea.. this would be the reaction from many who think it's their right to do nothing but still get paid..!!!

But Thankfully the possibility of which is pretty bleak.. our economic growth is disproportionate to our population growth.. There are already too many people who are unemployed or unemployable or simply plain lazy and unproductive enough... now to garner enough money for this kind of proposition the govt. will have to increase the tax burden on everyone..

having said that.. there are hardly 2% tax paying people in our country (India).. who are already unhappy with the kind of taxes levied and no benefits received condition...

Karm kar phal ki chinta mat kar... that is what The Bhagwat Geeta says..
( Do your deed with honesty and not worry about its fruits)

The UBI will change this to - "Phal kha Karm ki chinta mat kar "

i believe that is surely not the way that a govt should seek to provide security to its people.. How do they know if the money given will not be spent on booze, drugs, gambling, extravagance or prostitution...

This kind of step shall only promote more complacency and work wary population.. if the govt wants all the honest working force of the country to migrate somewhere where honesty and work is really valued then i would strongly recommend against this kind of propaganda...

I believe but it's very hard. Firstly, I think there’d be a huge, collective sigh of relief. Immediately, if we were to start paying a Universal Basic Income, there’s a lot that needs fixing – there’s an awful lot of trauma that’s been induced by poverty and stress. There’s so much we need to do in terms of the environment, infrastructure, in terms of helping each other reach our full potential.

I believe a UBI is essential for the continuation of society. Automation is getting incredibly good and is only improving over time. In a few years it is unlikely that humans will be competitive in many, many fields. In a few decades it is likely that humans will only have work by choice. Things like artisinal furniture making because it will be a prestige thing to say it was made by hand... and the person doing it will be doing it for love, or art which people will make to feel fulfilled. All the essential will be automated. In that world we need a UBI as there will be no other way for people to eat and have shelter.

In the near term it allows capitalism to work as intended, without coersion being unduly applied by anybody. Right now you have to work, and for many people the choices of where to work are limited. UBI allows you to pick and choose, so the power imbalane between emplyee and employer is corrected.
