How is Bitcoin censorship resistant?

0 0
One of the greatest features of a decentralized blockchain is censorship resistance. With the money in your bank account, a third party has control over where and when you can send it. With Bitcoin, you can send money to whatever address you like without fear of government interference. However, freedom is not the natural order of the world. The fight against oppression and censorship is a constant battle. While Bitcoin has an important history of circumventing censorship, we’ll look at the omnipresent threats against the cryptocurrency and its level of resistance.

Whatever is on the block chain is there forever, or until there is a hard fork to remove it, i've read that there is child pornography on the bitcoin satoshi vision block chain BSV and unless they hard fork it, it will always be there so it's not really censored but the websites where you can read what's on the chain has since blocked access from that so it's kinda censored but if you downloaded the chain i'm sure it's still there.

The " Censorship resistant " property of Bitcoin comes from the presence of an immutable blockchain. Bitcoin’s history is firmly written in its blockchain. Unlike in a forked coin, where the transactions can be reversed - which opens the door to censorship.

bitcoin prevents pre-censorship as
  • nobody knows your personal/physical identity
  • less centralization on the transaction processing side

bitcoin prevents post-censorship as
  • longest chain is decided by majority
  • transactions published cannot be altered with
  • making a separate chain is economically disadvantaged

Don't know much about bitcoin censorship but from what I've read on medium.com guy with handle "theymos" is deleting comments from people who are trying to put code that increases the block limit.

Bitcoin achieves censorship resistance by the proof of work consensus which only cares about the transaction being valid, not about where it came from or who generated it.
