How old were you the first time you drank alcohol?

0 0
I was studying in my college. I think my age would have been around 20. My intention was to not drink but as it was a friend's group compelling me to give it a try, I drank my first beer. From then on I drank a few times with so much hesitation. But today I'm a teetotaler.

First proper drink was when I was 17

The story starts when I was 16 though. A friend of mine (who is now a close longtime friend) had been a casual stoner for a couple years. He never pressured me or asked me to smoke but during the summer before I turned 17 I asked him if he could show me what this weed thing is all about.

Man that day I smoked for the first time was the most memorable and classic summer days a teenager could have. Anyways, I turned 17 in August, school started up again and I smoked a couple more times and I was surprised to find all the myths about marijuana was just fear-mongering by adults. So, I thought, alcohol is probably even safer and less impairing since it's legal and people drink all the time! Coincidently, that fall I broke up with my girlfriend at the time and was bummed out. I guess I wanted to see how alcohol would change my mood.

When I was home alone one night, I snuck into my dads liquor cabinet and grabbed a bottle at random. It was a brandy, I poured a quarter of a cup out and gulped it like it was water.

Boy did I regret that instantly. I reflexively spat it all out and nearly threw up. Obviously, straight liquor is not a great first drink to have. I've already poured it out so I didn't want to just waste it. I decided to drink it. I slowly took tiny tiny sips and eventually got a feel for how to manage the burn. There was still a lot left and I couldn't take much more. I did some googling and found out I can mix it with juice or something. Which I did and drank it all easily. Nothing really noticeable in terms of effect right away. Other than a lingering burn in my throat and a warm belly.

I assume I didn't drink enough to feel anything. I went to get settled into bed for the night and all of a sudden I knew something was happening. I went to take off my jeans and I went to throw it in the closet and my vision lagged and felt like there was no friction to resist my arm's movement. I imagine I looked like I was angry at my pants by throwing em overdramatically.

Alright, I was definitely feelin' it, but not drunk per se. My mood was warm, playful, and content. So naturally, I decided I'd try to text my recently-ex girlfriend. I have no idea what I said but I think she was more amused at the idea of me being intoxicated for the first time so she went along with my conversations. In the end we were able to stay friends after that instead of being distant, which was cool.

A year later when I turned 18, I became a bartender which I did throughout my college years. Which is the best job a college kid could get btw. Everyone wants to be your friend.

Maybe 10-12 years old when i first tasted alcohol. I was suffering from cold so my dad made me a proper peg of rum and made me drink it. That night was magical as everything was so chill. Also my cold was gone the next day 😝
