How to deal with social sites addiction?

"cmd" + "T" (or "ctrl" + "T")
then "fa"
then "enter"

It just happens naturally, without me (perhaps You) even noticing it.

  1. Do you think it's an addiction?
  2. Do you care about this addiction?
  3. What techniques have you tried so far to help with it?
  4. What techniques actually worked?

It is a real addiction, yes. I think the best way (and thus, the hardest) is to just simply quit cold turkey. Delete all social media apps from your phone, block them in your browser (Chrome has some extensions that enable you to block certain websites so you can't get "tempted"), and try to maintain this state for as much as you can. Then after a few days, weeks, the temptation will become weaker and weaker and you'll find that resisting them won't even be an issue anymore. In the meantime, with all that freed up time you can also take up constructive new activities, hobbies, etc. Good luck!

Step 1. Realize that if you don't have this addiction, you will be addicted to something else.
Step 2. Check if you are happy with what you are doing.
Step 3. If you are happy, then carry on.
Step 4. If you are no longer happy, find a new thing to get addicted on then go back to step 1.

  1. It's about thinking before doing any action. Before opening any of such website ask yourself "WHY", wait for 10 seconds and think. If you get the answer go ahead otherwise you won't open it.
  2. Most of it is due to free time or just to kill time. Find a better thing to do maybe read a book, talk to family, play with a baby if you have one in family 🙃
  3. Set reminders on phone for every 30 minutes, there is a great chance that you will get it while you are on one of these sites.

  1. Post constructive comments.
  2. Don't respond to negative comments.
  3. Try not to check every hour , so see what people are saying.
  4. Turn off the phone.
  5. Don't have the phone near your pillow.

My experience is using social media in a disciplined and controlled way. Any thing in access is not good for health . Same is with social media. Leaving just because of addiction not the solution .
We are social a animal and social media is the best way of expressing yourself and keeping in touch with others . So be disciplined and controlled in using it with other priorities .
