What idea did you learn in 2018 that changed the way you see the world?

Let's crowdsource good ideas here so that we can all learn from each other. But only the best submissions/ideas will get rewarded.

I moved to Iceland in 2018. While in some ways, they are a socialist nation with high taxes, government healthcare/education, frequent bailouts.....there is also a surprising side to their government. The people are VERY FREE. You can drink in street, most fireworks are legal, very few police, the government is not listening to you, etc. In fact, many Nordic socialist societies (especially Amsterdam) are incredibly FREE.

Here's my 2018 lesson: Capitalism is economic freedom...but maybe the world has become SO good at MAKING STUFF that I would rather give up some economic freedom & efficiency for free college , health care, and the benefits of slower growth. Additionally, economic freedom is NOT THE SAME AS PERSONAL FREEDOM .

I read "5 second rule" by Mell Robbins. and i learned from this book to be diligent and how to avoid procrastinating. These two skills changed my life and my horizon. For example, before reading this book i was so shy and i tested the methods on me. while hesitating to say something, i say 5, 4, 3 ,2 ,1 and do what i am hesitating to do. and now i have an automatic response in a positive way.
