Why is intermittent fasting becoming so popular these days? Is it a fad or there are some genuine benefits?

Have you heard of it? Are you or a friend of yours following it? What is the easiest way to implement it? What are the major benefits?

Intermittent fasting was always there in a different form - religious fasting, so it's definitely not a passing fad. But now it is being adopted by a lot of people without religious reasons, but health and fitness reasons.

Intermittent fasting first became popular in 2012 in the UK and then became a trend in Silicon Valley companies in the USA. And now in 2018, it is starting to get wider commercial acceptance.

Some benefits of IF include improved biomarkers - bodyfat, triglycerides, insulin sensitivity etc.

The easiest way to implement it is to do it daily. Reduce your eating cycle to 8 hours everyday - 8am to 4pm or 12noon to 8pm. In non-eating periods, you cannot consume any caloric food item. Your body will adapt to it in a few days.

In the current world without a reguar format of doing anything on routine basis, I feel intermittent fasting is just a shortcoming. It's somewhat in the grey area of negligence and procastination, as most of the working and non working people stay quite busy in their engagements to a lot of things like work, submissions, social media, binge watching contents and other stuffs that they neglect or miss out on regular fooding habits. Intermittent fasting is just an excuse. The body after prolonged exposure to these kind of irregularities try to maintain a similar kind of metabolism where it adapts to the irregularities. However, a body with fast metabolism always try to be food centric as it needs to refuel within a short range of time. Adversely, one with slower rate of metabolism gets a higher chance of intermittent fasting as the time range for being hungry is longer.

Intermittent fasting is a convenient way to restrict calories without consciously trying to eat less.

Intermittent fasting (IF) is currently one of the world's most popular health and fitness trends.

People are using it to lose weight, improve their health and simplify their lifestyles.

Many studies show that it can have powerful effects on your body and brain and may even help you live longer.

A lot of my friends who do it just skip breakfast and make sure not to eat snacks till a designated time. Benefits are usually just a fit body. These fads come and go but there are some people who swear by them.

Short term shocks to the body. i.e. disruptions can be healthy and stimulate your body. While there are benefits I do think like many things it will pass in time.
